Manager, Corner Gallery

Corner Gallery, Haliburton County’s fine art gallery, is looking for a Gallery Manager, available from May to October 2024. This role could be five days per week, part-time, or a job share. You must be available to work at the gallery during our regular opening hours.

You’ll be at the forefront of our gallery operations, playing a key role in curating and managing art exhibitions. You'll have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with artists and art collectors. Your responsibilities could include driving art sales, overseeing gallery finances, and enhancing our presence through print and social media.


Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of the gallery, which is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM, May to October. This includes facility management, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment for visitors.

Staffing: Staff the gallery or arrange for staffing as needed, including training and supervising part-time staff to enhance the visitor experience.

Artist Selection and Coordination: Select artists whose work aligns with the gallery's vision and art selection criteria. Coordinate with artists for exhibition setups and takedowns, managing the logistics of artwork transport and installation.

Sales and Customer Engagement: Engage with visitors to facilitate art sales, including offering personalized services such as home art trials and art consultative services. Develop and maintain relationships with collectors and art enthusiasts.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records, including inventory, pricing, and visitor numbers. Use data to inform future exhibitions and sales strategies.

Financial Oversight: Manage and document financial aspects, including income, expenses, and budget adherence. Provide regular financial reports to the owner.

Marketing and Promotion: Execute effective marketing strategies, including managing advertisement content for The Highlander newspaper, Instagram, the gallery's website, and email newsletters. Develop promotional materials and press releases.

Event Planning: Organize and host gallery events, such as openings, artist talks, and community outreach programs, to increase gallery visibility and engagement.

Networking and Community Involvement: Establish and maintain relationships with the local and art communities, participating in local events and fostering partnerships that align with the gallery's mission.


Skills and Qualifications:

Demonstrated passion for and knowledge of art.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of people.

Experience in art sales, customer service, or a related field.

Familiarity with marketing and social media management.

Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Basic financial literacy, with experience in budget management and financial reporting.
